If you’ve spent the big bucks for an excellent set of leather mountain hunting boots, don’t cheap out when it comes to treating and preserving your boot leather. There are just as many if not more leather preservatives and treatments out there then there are boot makers, so knowing which one is the best will help insure you get many miles of moutainsides out of your new leather boots.
Think Natural – Leather is a natural product, so why would you want to go about treating it with anything other than a Natural product? There are many petroleum and other chemical based leather treatments out there that can be damaging to your new investment.
Through a hunting forum a few years ago I was turned onto a little known (to me) product by the name of Obenhaufs Heavy Duty LP it’s a natural leather preservative originally designed to withstand the rigours of boots worn by firefighters. Over the years the product has been steadily adopted for many industrial uses such as construction and loggin and now extensively used by hunters as well.
Obenhaufs Heavy Duty LP is a natural leather protectant that contains no harmful chemicals that will damage your leather. Natural oils are suspended in a beeswax/propolis formula that is designed to gradually condition your leather, as your boot warms up, (through flexing) the natural oils are released when and where your boots need it the most.
In case you didn’t know, Propolis is a naturally anti-bacterial resin collected by honeybees to waterproof and disinfect their hives. Propolis is naturally resistant to chemicals, bacteria, mold and mildew. It’s truly one of natures wonderful little secrets, and my Hanwag boots don’t get anything but Obenhaufs Heavy Duty LP.
If you’d like the best boot wax and leather preservative for your hunting boots you can order Obenhaufs Heavy Duty LP online.
